About us
What we do
The Industry Voice
We are the industry’s only trade association that speaks for companies that are
both the principal employers and investors in our sector. This gives us a
stronger voice in putting forward the industry’s case for regulatory or
legislative change to improve the UK business environment.
Our contacts across all levels of government in Westminster, Holyrood and the EU
are extensive. Oil & Gas UK board members also provide the industry
representation in PILOT, the government industry forum chaired by the Secretary
of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
We also engage with government agencies, all the industry’s main trade
associations, trade unions, NGOs and other organisations with a stake in the
industry’s future, as well as with the public through the media, in all its
forms.
Research and Intelligence
Oil & Gas UK is the definitive source of information about the activities of the
offshore oil and gas industry in the UK.
We commission both in-house and independent research, studies and other projects
to provide industry analysis, trends and forecasts. Our activity survey of
investment and production trends and our economic report have become annual
benchmarks for the industry and are widely used by members and policy makers in
government.
Our subsidiary company, CDA, holds one of the world’s largest collections of
digital well log and seismic navigation data. It also manages DEAL, the premier
source of free, high quality data for the UK continental shelf, as well as lists
of the catalogues available from release agents, seismic acquisition companies
and operators.
Oil & Gas UK also publishes a quarterly newsletter on its latest activities,
regulatory developments and events. Our website attracts over 80,000 visitors a
month and as a member you will also have access to the information, reports and
online forums on our extranet, as well as regular updates on policy issues,
government consultations and other activities.

Promoting Best Practice
Oil & Gas UK works with industry and other organisations to raise standards in a
range of safety and operational practices, including environmental, technical
and commercial activities.
- Safety
Step Change in Safety, an Oil & Gas UK subsidiary company, is one of the key
collaborative vehicles for strengthening the industry’s safety performance.
Our safety guidelines, normally free to members as downloads from the
extranet, are sold around the world.
- Operational
Oil & Gas UK promotes a range of codes of practice and standard agreements
to streamline business procedures and improve efficiency. Our forums,
workshops and seminars give members additional opportunities to share
knowledge and experience with their peers in the overall drive towards
continuous improvement within the sector.
- Events and Networking
Oil & Gas UK meetings and events offer members a valued opportunity to meet
and exchange views as well as network with potential new suppliers and
customers in informal surroundings. A programme of events both north and
south of the border, including breakfast meetings, conferences, seminars and
our annual awards, keep members in touch with industry developments and
trends.
- Developing the Skills Agenda
The Oil & Gas UK skills forum provides the focal point for members to tackle
both existing and long-term skills issues and to develop co-operative
solutions in partnership with the newly created OPITO The Oil & Gas Academy.
Oil & Gas UK is a founder member of the academy and our chief executive and
member representatives sit on its Board.
